On December 1st our Year 12 student, Quim, participated in the pre-selection test of the Local Chemistry Olympiad in the Faculty of Chemical Sciences (UV) and was one of the 25 students who qualified for the next round. He then attended specific training seminars every Friday on the exam syllabus for the local competition, taught by university professors from the Faculty of Chemical Sciences. On March 23rd he participated in the Local Chemistry Olympiad and qualified to participate in the National Final, which will be held from May 4th to 6th, in Salamanca. Quim has participated as a student attached to the National University of Distance Education (U.N.E.D.), to which our School is affiliated, as a British foreign centre.
The Chemistry Olympiad is organized by the Spanish public universities, the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (R.S.E.Q.), the Association of Chemists of the Valencian Community (A.Q.C.V.) and the Ministry of Education. The purpose is to stimulate chemical study, reward effort, promote chemistry and encourage contact between secondary schools and the university. We wish to express our gratitude to all the organizers of the Olympiad for their work and their effort to promote the study of chemistry.
Congratulations to Quim for his enormous effort and interest in the study of chemistry and good luck in the "National Chemistry Olympiad Competition" in Salamanca. Well done,Quim!
